Christmas in Luxembourg: fewer lights, no ice rink

Luxembourg municipality has announced that this Christmas the city will significantly reduce its energy consumption. To do this, the number of festive winter lights will be reduced. They will hang only on the busiest streets. And they will only light up at certain hours, not 24/7.

In addition, every light is an LED light to save energy.

This will help the city save energy, but still, a lot will be spent on festive lighting. As for the ice skating rink, Luxembourg has completely abandoned this Christmas staple.

Maintaining an ice rink would be a big energy burden for the city. In the current conditions, according to the authorities, it’s simply irresponsible.

This is not the only recent energy-saving measure: the outdoor swimming pool in Grevenmacher will close in early September.
