The EU is preparing to introduce the 8th sanctions package against Russia

The decision to adopt new sanctions was provoked by the mobilization announced in Russia on September 21.

The next package of sanctions has not yet been officially announced. Experts suggest that it will be helmed by limiting the cost of oil, as well as affect IT and cybersecurity fields. It’s also expected that the list of people under personalsanctions will be expanded.

Poland and the Baltic states demand the introduction of restrictions against the banking sector, namely, the disconnection of more banks from SWIFT.

So far, the biggest question is the cap on oil prices. Talks about this began on September 2, but the bloc members did not reach unanimity. And on September 7, Vladimir Putin even threatened to completely stop the oil supply if such measures were taken. However, according to the EU, it’s this decision that will most severely limit Moscow’s income, which is also used for military purposes.
