Lufthansa cancels 800 flights in a day, further cancellations possible for Luxembourg-Germany flights
Today, on September 2, Lufthansa has announced the cancellation of 800 flights. More than 130 000 passengers were affected. The reason is the ongoing pilots’ strike. Today’s flights from Munich and Frankfurt to Luxembourg have not yet been canceled, but circumstances may change during the day.
Lufthansa cannot reach an agreement with the aviation trade union Vereinigung Cockpit. Workers demand a 5.5% increase in wages and automatic compensation for inflation. Until their demands are met, they plan to continue their strike. As Black Friday approaches, Lufthansa is facing increasingly cascading flight cancellations.
Due to the strike, both passenger and freight traffic are operating intermittently. The only unaffected division of the carrier is Eurowing.
Lufthansa is active at Findel Airport today. September 2, three planes leave the Grand Duchy for Frankfurt and Munich. And seven flights of the carrier arrive from Germany to Luxembourg. So far they haven’t been hit by cancellations. But representatives of the air carrier confirm that the situation may change during the day.
