Inflation in Luxembourg fell
The information was provided by the national institute Statec. The annual inflation rate in March was 3.1%, which is 0.1% lower than in February. This is partly due to the seasonality of prices. Decreases in one sector follow increases in other sectors.
In March, the prices of olive oil, baby food, fresh seafood and chocolate increased significantly. They increased by 8%, 5.1%, 4.2% and 3.9% respectively. Fresh vegetables fell in price by 4.3%, which is natural as the first harvest of the year appears on the markets. Fish lost 4.4% of its price, but potatoes lost only 1.5%.
When assessing price fluctuations, it is also important to take into account the half-yearly average of the inflation index, as it determines the next indexation of wages. This index is tied to the base of January 1, 1948. Now its value is 1000.72. A new indexation of wages will take place when the value reaches 1013.46.
