Luxembourg prepares to celebrate the 8th of March

On 8 and 9 March 2025, Villa Vauban and Lëtzebuerg City Museum will host events to celebrate International Women's Day. The programme includes themed guided tours, creative workshops and musical performances that invite visitors to take a fresh look at the art and history of women in culture.
At Villa Vauban on 8 March, guests will be treated to themed excursions:
- "Women of the Villa" (11:00-12:00, FR) - on the role of women in art and their symbolic image on canvases.
- "The Impressionism of Jean-Pierre Bexius" (15:00-16:00, EN) is an exhibition to mark the artist's 125th anniversary, featuring 90 paintings and studies, many of which have not been exhibited before.
- "The Art of Pigments" (16:00-16:50, EN) - An immersion into the world of pigments used in painting from the 17th century to the mid-19th century.
On 9 March, Villa Vauban will continue its cultural programme:
- Musical Mornings for Kids (11:00-11:45 a.m., LU) is an interactive musical performance for children ages 4 to 7.
- Comic World open workshop (13:30-16:30, multi-lingual) by Nadine Rocco - creating comic cards using stamps and printing plates.
- "Queer Lens" (14:00-15:30, EN) - A tour of the permanent exhibition with an inclusive and new take on the classics.
- "The Impressionism of Jean-Pierre Bexius" (15:00-16:00, LU/DE) is another opportunity to learn about the diversity of the artist's motifs.
- "Art Walk" (16:00-17:30, LU/DE) - a guided tour of European painting and sculpture from the 17th-19th centuries with a video projection immersing you in the atmosphere of the paintings.
Lëtzebuerg City Museum is also offering a busy programme these days. On 8 March, there will be an open workshop "Print your Nana" (13:30-16:30, multilingual) by Jessica Frascht, inspired by the work of Niki de Saint Phalle. Visitors will be able to create their own unique postcards using linocuts.
On 9 March, the museum has scheduled:
- Audio tour "History is her story" (FR/EN/DE) to discover women's images in Luxembourg's history.
- "Babel heureuse?" (11:00-12:00, FR) - a tour exploring multilingualism and translation in the context of history and philosophy.
- "Pure Europe" (14:00-15:00, EN) is an exhibition offering a critical rethinking of stereotypes about Europe and its diversity.
- "Luxembourg in the Middle Ages" (15:00-16:00, LU/DE) - an immersive tour of the 10th-12th centuries and a visit to an archaeological crypt.
