Demand for language courses in Luxembourg is on the rise

On Wednesday, the National Institute of Languages of Luxembourg (Institut national des langues de Luxembourg) opened enrolment for the autumn term of 2026. There is consistently high interest in language learning in the country: historically, places on beginner’s courses in French and Luxembourgish have filled up instantly. According to the institute, in September 2025 all places were booked within just a few minutes of the online portal opening.

Ahead of the new intake, the institute’s IT department has prepared for a sharp increase in user traffic to ensure the platform runs smoothly during peak periods. This year, around 1,150 places have been allocated at various times of the day for those wishing to study Luxembourgish at A1 level (for beginners). At the same time, nearly 600 places have been set aside for the equivalent level in French, for which demand continues to grow. By comparison, around 190 places are available for the less popular beginner’s German courses.

Representatives of the educational institution note that the final number of study groups may be adjusted depending on actual enrolment trends: classes with low demand may be cancelled, whilst additional classes may be opened if demand is high. A total of 10,000 places will be offered across all levels of study in the autumn term of 2026. The programme covers thirteen languages, including English, Arabic, Korean, Dutch and Russian. The timetable has been drawn up to accommodate students’ work schedules: morning classes begin at 7.10 am, whilst the last evening classes are scheduled to start at 7.00 pm.
