On 27 September 2025, the place d'Armes in Luxembourg will host an event to mark the 25th World Heart Day. The Health Directorate, together with the Luxembourg Society of Cardiologists and the World Heart Federation, invites residents to attend the event from 10am to 5pm to learn more about risk factors and prevention.

Health and Social Care Minister Martin Depres said: "Every heartbeat matters. By taking care of our heart health, we protect ourselves and our loved ones to live longer and better lives."

Cardiovascular diseases remain the most frequent cause of death worldwide. In Europe, they cause more than 42% of deaths each year. In Luxembourg in 2023, heart disease was the second cause of death after cancer (25.8% of all cases), claiming 1,100 lives.

The city centre event will offer visitors a 'health walk' and advice on how to strengthen their hearts. This is part of the national plan to combat cardiovascular and neurovascular diseases for 2023-2027. The plan aims to strengthen prevention, improve diagnosis and patient follow-up.

Specialists remind that the main protective measures are simple: move at least half an hour a day, eat right, control blood pressure, get enough sleep, give up cigarettes and alcohol.
