A serious fire broke out in a residential block of flats on Avenue Monterey in Luxembourg. According to the official CGDIS report, the fire was reported shortly before 10.00 pm on Tuesday.

Significant resources were mobilised to deal with the emergency: fire crews from the capital joined the fire-fighting efforts, reinforced by units from the Hesperange and Sandweiler rescue centres, as well as the city’s emergency services. According to preliminary reports, no one was injured as a result of the incident. However, as of Wednesday morning, the exact cause of the fire remains unclear.

At the same time, eyewitnesses were actively discussing the scale of the incident on social media. In particular, posts appeared on the Instagram page luxembourgish_memes from witnesses claiming that the fire had started in the area of the roof or the upper terrace of the building. One resident of a neighbouring house noted that the roof engulfed in flames was clearly visible from his window, and the sound of emergency vehicles’ sirens continued for around 45 minutes.

In addition to this incident, Luxembourg’s emergency services recorded two further fires during the day. Fire crews extinguished a small fire in a garden on Rue de Trèves, as well as a fire in a rubbish bin on Rue de l’Église. These incidents also resulted in no casualties or injuries.
