The Minister of the Interior, Léon Gloden, in response to parliamentary enquiry No. 1800, reported that the number of burglaries, including attempted burglaries, in Luxembourg has decreased significantly. According to preliminary data, between 1 October and 8 December 2024, the number of such crimes decreased by 38.85% compared to the same period in 2023.
Police have expanded patrols across the country since November 2024, focusing on regions with the highest crime rates. The number of preventive checks has also increased, rising by 18.7 per cent over the two winter months.
In 2024, the authorities detected the activity of organised criminal groups in the country, which led to an increase in police operations. At the same time, the police regularly inform the public about the arrests of suspects.
The state continues to invest in the fight against crime, with plans to increase police funding, recruit new officers, and modernise infrastructure.
The Minister also noted that residents can improve the security of their homes themselves by installing alarms and lighting around their properties. In addition, the police provide theft prevention counselling available on the Grand-Ducal Police website.
Final crime data for 2024 will be published in the spring. However, there has already been a significant reduction in the number of thefts, which demonstrates the effectiveness of enhanced security measures.
