According to the Accident Insurance Association (AAA), in 2023, most work-related injuries occurred in the construction industry or in public places such as transport facilities. A total of 17,409 accidents were recorded in Luxembourg (246 more than in 2022). Of these, 14,273 were work-related injuries, 3,003 were accidents on the way to work, and 133 were occupational diseases. On average, 101 cases per day were recorded and the average cost of treating one incident was €4,328.

The number of work-related injuries increased significantly, rising by 405 cases compared to 2022, accounting for 81.99% of all incidents. The most frequent accidents occurred at construction sites (25.69%), public places including the transport sector (24.92%), and industrial sites (20.80%).

Almost half of the injuries (47.58%) were superficial wounds, 35% of the cases involved upper extremities, especially hands. The highest risk of injury was observed among workers aged 46-50 years employed in construction. Most often the accidents occurred due to collision with moving objects.

From 30 September, AAA also announced the launch of an electronic accident notification facility via the MyGuichet.lu platform, although the option to file paper claims will remain.
