125 British citizens didn't apply for residence permit in Luxembourg in time. Deadlines are extended, again
All British citizens who arrived in Luxembourg before January 1, 2021, must apply for a residence permit. Otherwise, they will lose social benefits, protection and work opportunities. The original submission deadline was June 2021. However, it has now been extended for the third time until June 30, 2023.
The government of the Grand Duchy repeatedly addressed the missing British applicants. However, some of them have left the country long ago. The real number may be less than 125.
There’s a trend, a growing demand in Britain for Luxembourg citizenship after Brexit. In 2015 only 75 Brits acquired a Grand Duchy passport. Between 2016 and 2022, 1669 citizens of the United Kingdom have already done so.
