Emergencies on July 30: road accident at Stadtbredimus, fire near Vianden

Yesterday, July 30, two emergencies happened nearly at once on the Luxembourg-Germany border: a traffic accident involving a van and a forest fire. Both occured in the morning.

The fire started in the forest near Vianden and Bivens at 10 am. The fire threatened a nearby church. It took firefighters 4 hours and the combined effort of 60 people to bring the flame under control. It did not reach the church, and there were no casualties in the fire.

Saturday’s emergencies did not end there. Around 11 am, a van overturned on the N10 road between Stadtbredimus and Hütermühle. Six people were injured in the accident, one of them sustained serious trauma. Rescuers, firefighters and an ambulance helicopter quickly arrived at the scene. The victims were sent to the Remich, Mertert and Wormeldange hospitals.

Major fires have already happened in Luxembourg this summer, especially on July 19 due to extremely hot weather. Four fields and a forest suffered from flames in that same day. It’s also been just a few days since a traffic accident on the A1 highway, in which a German motorcyclist tragically died.
