Findel Failure: сauses and сonsequences
Findel Airport was a bit of a mess Wednesday morning: "Due to isolated damage to the asphalt surface of the runway, it is currently closed for repair work," Lux-Airport said in a mid-morning press release. By noon, takeoffs had resumed on part of the 4-kilometer runway, but landings were still impossible.
Earlier, one passenger noted that "the entire runway is closed" and "all flights have been canceled until noon". Another, however, mentioned a hole in the runway at Findel Airport: "Incoming flights are being diverted to other airports in the region.
Passengers from the following destinations experienced the most difficulties: Tenerife, La Palma, Barcelona, Porto, Rome, Vienna, Prague, Venice, Copenhagen and Cagliari. Despite this, the airport sent out text messages in advance asking people to arrive at the time stated on their ticket, as a solution to the runway problem was found fairly quickly.
Nevertheless, just hours later, the airport announced a full reopening: "At 10:30, part of the runway was opened for limited operations. The runway at Luxembourg Airport has been fully reopened and is operational as of 14:30".
