Large amount of cocaine arrested at the border
On Saturday morning, November 26, Serbian smugglerstried to smuggle 115 kilograms of cocaine across the Luxembourg-Belgian border. On a global scale, this is far from a record number, but in relation to the population of Luxembourg, it is significant.
The Belgian and Luxembourg customs workers seized the drugs in a joint effort. Cocaine was found in an abandoned hardware store on the Luxembourg Highway near Arlon.
Also in Arlon, police arrested five alleged smugglers. The sixth suspect was detained on the territory of the Grand Duchy. Two more are awaiting extradition in the Netherlands and one in Serbia.
The method of smuggling deserves mention. 103 packages of cocaine were hidden in concrete slabs. If successful, a batch of 115 kilograms could have brought its carriers almost 11 500 000 euros.
