On 20 November, Luxembourg will celebrate World Children's Day, marking the 65th anniversary of the adoption of the Declaration of the Rights of the Child and the 35th anniversary of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child. The year 2024 also marks the centenary of the Geneva Declaration, which became the basis of an international agreement.

Key activities:

  • The story of Arthur the owl. A new story for children between six and ten years old about the right to a clean environment will be published on 20 November. The book, created by pupils from Useldange School and author Ania Di Bartolomeo, will be available in three languages on the website of the Ministry of Education.
  • Competition "Deng Zukunft - Deng Stëmm". Organised by Unicef Luxembourg, the competition will end on 20 November and invites children to express their ideas about the future of their communities.
  • Expert Conference. National and international experts will meet on 19 November to discuss a new plan of action on children's rights for 2027.

The Ministry of Education, Childhood and Youth is continuing to implement the plan "Zesumme fir d'Rechter vum Kand" (2022-2026), as well as education and awareness-raising campaigns on children's rights. More information is available at droitsdelenfant.men.lu.
