Luxtrust token will be out of service
Since 2008, Luxembourg has been using an authentication method known as a token. After 16 years of operation, the system has become obsolete and no longer meets modern security requirements. Therefore, support for tokens will be discontinued as of December 31, 2024.
It has not yet been announced whether an analog system will be made available to replace the departing system. It is expected that most transactions will now be confirmed via the mobile app. PUSH notifications on a smartphone screen are a much faster and more reliable way to approve or deny certain transactions.
Of course, the changes will primarily affect banks and government agencies like Guichet that use the Luxtrust token to identify users. According to a recent report, only a third of the 670,000 people currently using the mobile app are doing so. This number is likely to increase once support for the token is withdrawn.
You can ask questions about the token and get the latest updates on the official support page.
