Schieburg Tunnel will reopen in Luxembourg

The Schieburg Tunnel, which collapsed on August 27, was supposed to reopen as early as December 11. That was the primal deadline set by the repair crew. In fact, everything appeared to be much more complicated. Cleaning the blockage and sampling of rocks took a lot of time.

These samples are especially important as they will help forecast future changes in the mountain structure and make the tunnel safer from future collapses. So far, 12 wells have been drilled up to a depth of 75 meters.

The restoration work on the tunnel is progressing according to schedule so far. CFL has officially confirmed that the tunnel will reopen after the Easter weekend of 2023.
