Former minister Georges Mischo appointed senior advisor to the government

Former CSV Minister of Labour and Sport Georges Mischo has been appointed senior advisor to the Luxembourg government for a seven-year term. The decision was published in the Official Gazette on Monday, just one week after Mischo was sworn in as a member of parliament.
Mischo's appointment is in line with established practice: he is not the first former minister to be appointed senior government adviser after leaving office. Previously, similar positions were held by Paulette Lenert, Claude Wiseler and Octavie Modert, among others, which underscores the institutional nature of such transitions within the country's political system.
Before embarking on his political career, Georges Mischo worked as a physical education teacher. He left the government in early December amid criticism related to the so-called "Sports Museum affair," which caused public and political outrage. Following his resignation, his duties in the government were redistributed: Martine Hansen took over as Minister of Sport, and Marc Spautz became Minister of Labour.
Mischo's appointment to a long-term advisory position comes at a sensitive time and is likely to draw renewed attention to the practice of employing former members of the government, especially given recent events that led to his departure from the cabinet.
