A school bus burnt down in Shifflange
On the afternoon of 2 December 2024, there was a fire in a school bus in the Cité op Hudelen area, Schifflange. The incident occurred at around 13:10, opposite the maison relais. As luck would have it, the bus was empty at the time of the fire and no one was injured.
According to police, the bus caught fire while the children were at lunch. Children were evacuated in case of a possible explosion, but classes started on time as the smoke did not reach the school.
The cause of the fire remains unknown for now. The deputy mayor noted that the fire probably started in the engine compartment. The driver noticed smoke when starting the engine and tried to put out the flames with a fire extinguisher, but the fire spread too quickly. "It is good that there were no children on the bus, otherwise the consequences could have been serious," he added.
The incident was quickly localised by the Fire Service (CGDIS), ensuring that the damage was limited to the bus and a nearby hedge. The safety of the children was not jeopardised at any point, the authorities assured. Maison relais promptly alerted parents via the Dimmi app.
