Luxembourg is stepping up measures to ensure public safety by testing the LU-Alert national alert system. On Monday, 2 December 2024, the country's residents will face a comprehensive test including siren network verification, local and national test SMS distributions, and notifications via the LU-Alert mobile app and the system's official website.
The test is being conducted to evaluate the effectiveness of the different notification channels. Individual citizens will receive two test messages due to the parallel use of local and national mailing systems. It is important to emphasise that this is a test and in no case any action on the part of the recipients is required.
LU-Alert is a modern multi-level system capable of promptly warning the population about emergency situations. It uses both traditional methods (sirens) and digital channels, including SMS and mobile applications. The system is oriented to create instant and large-scale coverage, especially in cases of natural disasters, man-made accidents or other crisis situations.
