Luxembourg back in the top 20 best cities to live in
In Mercer's updated 2024 Quality of Life ranking, Switzerland has strengthened its position as a leader in providing comfortable living conditions. Four Swiss cities were included in the top 10: Zurich (1st place), Geneva (3rd place), Bern (9th place) and Basel (10th place).
Zurich pushed Vienna into second place due to its strong infrastructure, low crime rate and active cultural life. Geneva, despite its high cost of living, attracts with its international communities and cultural diversity.
Of the world's top 20 cities, 14 are in Europe, making the region the most attractive to international professionals. In addition to Swiss cities, the top 20 include:
- Frankfurt (7th place) is the leader among German cities, ahead of Munich (11th place) and Düsseldorf (16th place).
- Amsterdam (6th place), confirming its status as one of the most comfortable cities in Western Europe.
- Luxembourg (17th place), which lost one position compared to last year, behind the popular Stockholm.
At the same time, capitals like Paris (34th), London and Brussels (both 40th) remain well outside the top 20, behind even regional cities like Toulouse (32nd).
Mercer bases its rankings on an analysis of 39 factors, including stability, quality of housing, transport, environment, access to education and health services. This approach not only assesses the overall standard of living, but also identifies cities suitable for international professionals.
