Luxembourg, where the 2018 animal protection law recognises animals as beings with feelings, is celebrating International Animal Rights Day. The Ministry of Agriculture urges to remember that animals are not an accessory and keeping them requires responsibility.

Agriculture Minister Martine Hansen emphasised the importance of making informed choices when purchasing pets, especially before the holidays, "Before you get an animal, make sure you are prepared for long-term responsibility and choose shelters over buying."

The ministry is actively supporting animal shelters and a wildlife assistance centre, as well as giving citizens the opportunity to report violations through a new contact centre help@deier.lu.

The Luxembourg Veterinary Administration monitors the health and welfare of animals on a daily basis, endeavouring to create a society where animal rights are respected at all levels.
