In Dommeldange, a railway crossing (Passage à Niveau, PN) is to be closed due to frequent congestion and increased danger for pedestrians and cyclists. According to the Ministry of Mobility and Public Works, in 2020, 1,295 crossings were recorded at this crossing in a single day, of which 1,174 were made by pedestrians and 121 by cyclists. At the same time, 31 crossings occurred in dangerous conditions, emphasising the need to replace the crossing with a safer alternative.

The crossing at Dommeldange is closed for an average of 40 minutes every hour, and sometimes for up to 7 consecutive minutes. This causes significant delays for pedestrians, cyclists and motorists. The Ministry, led by Yuriko Backes, has decided to close the crossing and replace it with a subway for pedestrians and cyclists. For cars, an underground tunnel is not possible due to the proximity to the bridge over the Alzette River. The main route for motorists will remain the N11 bypass, which was built back in the 1980s and has been the main artery between Dommeldange and the centre of Luxembourg ever since.

The ministry also emphasises that the intersection of Rue d'Eich and Rue Auguste Laval, which is often used as a diversion route, is managed by the Luxembourg city authorities and not by the road department, which explains possible delays on this section.
