The capital's tram network has undergone a major upgrade: last week, permanent, optimised platforms opened in the Howald district. The new stop is located approximately 50 metres closer to the main transport hub than the temporary one and should better serve the rapidly growing neighbourhood, making the tram more attractive to passengers.

Luxtram Director Helge Dorstewitz explained that initially, the construction of a permanent station was impossible due to protracted negotiations on the purchase of land plots. "Now these issues have been resolved, the second part of the bridge has been built, and we are bringing the stop to its final form," he said.

Today, the existing tram network covers approximately 16 kilometres, with several extensions currently under construction. Since May 2025, construction has been underway on a new line in Kirchberg, which will connect the Pfaffenthal stop with the European School via Boulevard Konrad Adenauer. This section is scheduled to open at the start of the 2027 academic year. The line will then be extended to the Kuebebierg district and then along Boulevard Pierre Frieden towards Luxexpo.

The next major stage in the network's development is linked to the Place de l'Étoile area. From here, there are plans to extend lines to the Cloche d'Or district and along the Route d'Arlon to the Centre Hospitalier de Luxembourg (CHL). Both projects are considered long-term and should be completed by 2035.

At the same time, Luxtram intends to begin construction of a section in Hollerich in 2027, which will serve the new New-Hollerich district. According to Dorstewitz, this line is expected to be operational in 2029.
