Marathon runners stuck in Luxembourg

The end of the long Ascension weekend proved nervous and chaotic for many European travellers. Dozens of flights were cancelled and delayed due to bad weather over the Alps, accompanied by the declared orange danger level. Luxembourg airport was also caught in the turbulence zone: Volotea flight V7 2579 to Nice, scheduled for 18:55, was first postponed several times and then finally cancelled. Luxair flight LG8245 in the same direction departed only at 22:27 - more than three hours late.
For Volotea passengers, the situation was a real test of patience. One of them, arriving from Metz, recalls: "First we were told of a two-hour delay, then a three-hour delay. Finally, an hour after the scheduled departure, the flight was cancelled. I had to go back to Lorraine - they came by car to pick me up.
The participants of the ING Night Marathon, who had travelled to Luxembourg and expected to return in the evening, were particularly affected. Some were offered to stay in a hotel, but flights for the next day were already full. One passenger struggled to find an alternative thanks to a subscription to a booking service. However, even the meal cards provided by the company did not work, which caused further irritation.
Passengers expressed anger and frustration on social media, primarily due to the lack of information. "Airport employees only waved their hands - no news from the company," notes one eyewitness. Despite the fact that weather conditions do not depend on the carrier, communication with customers was at zero.
Volotea later officially contacted passengers, confirming that the cancellation was indeed due to the weather. On Platform X, a spokesperson urged customers to contact customer service directly to resolve the consequences.
