The Luxembourg Ministry of Defence has concluded negotiations with the US, NSPA (NATO Support Agency) and SES for the O3b mPOWER programme, awarding a contract in September 2024. This advanced satellite system provides high-speed communications and a wide range of capabilities including training, technical support and equipment. Developments are being undertaken as part of a broader strategy that encompasses both national and international needs.
The O3b mPOWER constellation includes six satellites already providing limited coverage. SES has announced plans to launch additional satellites to expand the network.
The first quarter of 2025 will be key: the Luxembourg Army will continue testing MGS and begin training personnel. Once this phase is complete, the programme's capabilities will be available for a wider range of tasks.
