Arable land in Luxembourg costs €42,540 per hectare
In 2023, the average value per hectare of arable land in the European Union was €11,791 and the average rental rate was €173 per hectare. These figures are published by Eurostat and are based on statistics from 22 EU countries.
The highest price per hectare was recorded in Malta at €283,039, which is significantly higher than in other countries. Second place went to the Netherlands with a price of €91,154 per hectare, while Luxembourg came in third with €42,540.
At the other end of the spectrum are:
- Croatia (€4 491 per hectare);
- Latvia (€4 591);
- Slovakia (€5 189).
Significant regional differences can be observed even within countries. For example, in the Austrian region of Vienna a hectare costs €189,000, while in the Swedish region of Övre Norrland it costs only €1,951. In the Netherlands, the Flevoland region has the most expensive rental rate at €1,787 per hectare, while in the Slovakian region of Stredné Slovensko, renting costs only €40.
Average rental rates for agricultural land also vary. The highest is recorded in the Netherlands (€914 per hectare) and the lowest in Slovakia (€67 per hectare).
