Luxembourg receives 20 million euros from the European Commission

The European Commission is to grant Luxembourg 93 million euros to modernise its structures and prepare for the transition to a green economy. This was announced in an official letter sent by the European Commission. Most of the money, 82.7 million euros, has already been received by the Grand Duchy.

Overall, the plan contains 20 measures that will be specifically funded by the Commission. 61% of the plan is aimed at achieving climate change targets, while the rest is devoted to digital technologies. Luxembourg will need to implement 8 reforms and invest in 12 related projects.

The environmental aspect is particularly important. Luxembourg still has one of the highest CO2 emissions per capita. At the same time, the economy is not the most CO2-intensive. One of the reasons for this is the high number of private cars in use.

But there are ways and means of emission reduction. A good example is electric cars. As Luxembourg is actively developing solar energy, recharging should not be a problem in the near future.

Luxembourg launched a programme to support solar energy infrastructure projects last November. This is a support programme to encourage companies to build and operate photovoltaic solar energy systems. In response to a call for proposals, companies submitted photovoltaic projects integrated into buildings or greenhouses.

There were more than 100 applications. Only 85 fully met the requirements and passed the selection round. The total cost of all the projects is estimated to be 44 million euros

Photovoltaics, or PV, is the use of solar cells to convert sunlight into electricity. This technology enables the production of clean and sustainable electricity by harnessing renewable energy. PV systems are widely used in residential, commercial and industrial applications. It aims to help reduce dependence on traditional fossil fuel-based energy sources and contribute to a greener and more sustainable future.
