Natural gas consumption down in Luxembourg
Natural gas consumption down in Luxembourg
According to the latest report, Luxembourg showed a significant reduction in natural gas consumption in November 2024, reaching 21% compared to the 2017-2022 average. This is well above the EU target of 15 per cent.
The European Union has set ambitious gas consumption reduction targets for its members. According to the recommendations approved by the energy ministers, countries should reduce gas consumption by at least 15% by 31 March 2025. These measures are aimed at improving energy efficiency and sustainability of the energy system.
Luxembourg's achievement of higher savings is due to a number of factors:
- Active public awareness through the energieauer.lu platform created by the Ministry of Economy and Klima-Agence.
- Introducing energy efficiency programmes in homes and businesses.
- Increasing the share of renewable energy sources in the country's energy balance.
Such indicators not only help to fulfil EU commitments, but also reduce the country's dependence on energy imports. Luxembourg is becoming an example for other countries in meeting climate goals.
