Luxembourg's cinema will once again be in the spotlight on one of the world's most prestigious stages, the 82nd Venice Film Festival, which will take place from 27 August to 6 September 2025. This year, three coproductions featuring Luxembourg studios will be presented in two key competition sections - a testament not only to the country's artistic growth, but also to its commitment to cutting-edge storytelling formats.

The film Grand Ciel, directed by Akihiro Hata and co-produced by France and Les Films Fauves (Gilles Chanial), was included in the Orizzonti Competition Programme. This section is one of the most authoritative in the festival, focusing on new cinematic directions and marked by a rigorous selection process.

Luxembourg made a significant contribution to the project, with actors Sophie Mousel and Hervé Sogne playing key roles and much of the filming taking place at Filmland Studios in Kehlen with local expertise.

The Venice Immersive category, which showcases the latest in immersive technology and VR experiences, features two co-productions featuring Luxembourg studios at once:

  • "The Great Escape", directed by Joren Vandenbroucke, is a collaboration between studio a_BAHN (Marion Guth and François Le Gal) and Belgian partners. The project is closely linked to Velvet Flare's animation and development team in Oberkorn, where much of the development took place.
  • "A Long Goodbye", a collaboration between Tarantula Luxembourg, Belgium and the Netherlands, directed by Kate Voet and Victor Maes. The 2D/3D animation is also done by Velvet Flare Studio under the artistic direction of Damiano Picci.

Both VR works explore the boundaries of storytelling in digital space and cement Luxembourg's status as an innovator in immersive cinema.
