Parc Merveilleux is preparing to expand

The legendary Parc Merveilleux, which has been welcoming visitors since 1956, has announced the largest investment project in its history. The modernisation, timed to coincide with the park’s 70th anniversary, is estimated to cost €60 million. The main investor is the German company THEO LIRPA Rides GMBH & Co KG, which specialises in managing amusement parks across Europe. Representatives of the operator describe the Luxembourg park as a ‘hidden gem’ with enormous untapped potential.
The project involves dividing the site into themed zones. Among the most eagerly anticipated new additions are a full-scale roller coaster, water rides and a high-tech 3D simulator. In addition to the entertainment facilities, the plan includes the construction of a hotel and new restaurants, as well as a complete overhaul of the transport infrastructure, including the expansion of parking areas. The main phase of construction work is scheduled for autumn 2027, which may result in the partial closure of the park.
Despite the extensive changes, the management emphasises that Parc Merveilleux will retain its identity as a zoo. The animals will remain in the park, though their enclosures will be upgraded to meet the latest standards, and some areas will be relocated further away from noisy rides to reduce stress on the animals. The park’s iconic symbol — the giant figure — will also remain in place, whilst the project’s designers hint at the arrival of a new character — the ‘giant lady’.
Negotiations with the local council are ongoing, and although the project is at an early stage, the investors are committed to its long-term development. The project is expected to be fully completed by 2030. There are also discussions regarding an initiative to grant all residents of Luxembourg free admission on their first visit to the refurbished park, which aims to become one of Europe’s leading family destinations.
