The last fanfare of carnival: how Luxembourg sees off Fasching

Last weekend brought a colourful end to Luxembourg's carnival season. On Saturday night, the streets of Wasserbillig were filled with lights, music and glittering costumes: the night parade by the Moselle brought together dozens of floats and parade performers. From the first dusk, the festivities spilled over the waterfront, turning the city into one big stage.
On Sunday, the carnival mood moved to Remich, where the country's oldest carnival parade took place. Despite the cooler and less sunny weather than in previous years, the crowds of spectators were still in full swing. Flotillas of floats moved along the esplanade overlooking the Moselle, throwing out traditional sweets and mini bottles of wine.
But the real surprise was the carrots that the Oesling platform treated the audience to - a fun touch that will probably become a new tradition.
At the same time, the final chords sounded in Pétange, where the colourful procession was also a farewell to Fasching 2025. The atmosphere, according to eyewitnesses, was "exactly as a carnival should be" - a riot of colour, creative costumes and soulful energy.
