Luxembourg residents and visitors will be able to make a rare journey at the end of September - aboard a historic train driven by the legendary CFL 5519 steam locomotive. This machine, restored by enthusiasts, is a moving monument to an era when railways still breathed steam and coal.
The journey starts on 27 September 2025 from Luxembourg and runs along the picturesque Moselle Valley. Passengers will stop in Perl/Schengen, the symbolic place where borders meet and where the Schengen Agreement was signed in 1985. The final destination is Trier, one of the oldest cities in Germany, famous for its Roman monuments and cosy atmosphere.
The organisers promise not just a journey, but a real immersion into the past. Antique cars with wooden trim and the characteristic "breath" of a steam locomotive create the atmosphere of travelling in the early 20th century. At the same time, the route is designed to give maximum impressions: vineyards, cosy villages and river views are replaced by a cultural stop in Trier, and in the evening the participants will return to Luxembourg in the romantic evening against the backdrop of sunset colours.
This trip is designed for everyone - from families with children to railway history buffs. It combines comfort, authenticity and the opportunity to see the region from an unusual perspective.
