Summerschool, launched in 2020 as a response to learning gaps following the COVID-19 pandemic, has gradually turned into a sustainable tradition of supporting school children in Luxembourg. This year, the sixth edition of the programme runs from 1 to 12 September 2025, offering classes and tutoring for both primary and secondary school students.
The aim remains the same: to help children refresh their knowledge, consolidate material from the previous academic year and fill in gaps in key subjects.
In 2025, 6,932 applications were registered, of which 5,531 were for primary education and 1,401 for secondary education. In primary education, language courses are the most in demand: German accounted for 66.5% of all applications, and language classes in general accounted for almost three quarters. In secondary education, the picture is different: maths (33.4%) leads the way, followed by French (24.8%) and German (18.6%).
The project has recruited 461 volunteers, including 127 teachers and more than 330 students with at least a bachelor's degree. This symbiosis between teachers and students not only helps to relieve pressure on the system, but also to create a less formal but still effective learning environment for students.
Of particular importance are the subject dossiers developed by SCRIPT for all key subjects and grades. They can be accessed online via the summerschool.lu platform until 15 September. These materials can be used both with teachers and independently, and the availability of modelling solutions helps parents to support their children's learning.
Summerschool's popularity is borne out by the figures: between 15 July and 25 August 2025 alone, the site was visited 17,275 times and files were downloaded over 22,000 times.
