Luxembourg to host British & Irish Film Festival

Festival Events Company has released the schedule for the British & Irish Film Festival in Luxembourg (BIFFL) this autumn. The festival runs from September 18 to 22 at the Cinémathèque. Additionally, there will be various exclusive films showing at Ciné Utopia the week before and after the primary program.

The festival started in Luxembourg in 2010. Previously, the festival took place only in the fall. This year, it was split into two seasons — spring and fall. The program offers over 12 feature films from Ireland, England, Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland in different genres.

Luxembourg collaboration films will also be shown. For example, Little Duke directed by Andy Bausch, A Greyhound of a Girl directed by Enzo D'Alò, and The Red Suitcase directed by Cyrus Neshvad, which was nominated for an Oscar.

The festival's opening film is the comedy-drama The Miracle Club directed by Thaddeus O'Sullivan. The four charming female leads of the story venture to the holy town of Lourdes in France, set in Ireland. Laura Linney, Kathy Bates, Maggie Smith, and Agnes O'Casey star in this movie.

Additionally, the festival features The Old Oak, directed by Ken Loach, which is set in a pub in Northeastern England, The Eternal Daughter, directed by Joanna Hogg and starring Tilda Swinton, and Breaking Out, a documentary about the life of famous singer Fergus O'Farrell.

The festival will end with the thriller The Outfit directed by Graham Moore. The story is set in Chicago in 1956 where gangs hold all the power. Tailor Leonard (Mark Rylance) arrived from London to make suits for local gangsters. Although he has the best suits in town, his reputation and life are in danger when his loved ones and even the tailor himself begin to suspect betrayal.
