A massive outbreak of cyanobacteria has been reported in Moselle, near Koblenz, Germany. The Luxembourg sanitary authorities, together with scientists from LIST, carried out checks along the Luxembourg part of the river. The results confirmed the presence of cyanobacteria, although in most cases at a low level (categories 1 or 2 according to the cyanowatch.lu website)
Infected areas are mainly localised on the banks and in areas with stagnant water. The Schwebsange harbour and the river bend at Machtum are particularly affected.
Although the situation is not yet alarming, sanitation authorities advise caution and hygienic measures, especially for dog owners and fishing enthusiasts.
