The Luxembourg government has significantly increased its financial support for the fight against tuberculosis through international partnerships. According to a response from the Minister for Development Cooperation and Humanitarian Affairs, Xavier Bettel, the World Health Organisation (WHO) will receive 46.5 million euros from Luxembourg between 2025 and 2028 - an increase of more than 30% compared to the previous agreement (2019-2024). In parallel, funding for the Global Fund against AIDS, Malaria and Tuberculosis (Global Fund against AIDS, Malaria and Tuberculosis) will amount to 15.45 million euros for 2023-2025 - an increase of more than 70 per cent compared to the period 2020-2022.

The Minister stressed that at the EU level changes are being observed and the consequences of the reduction of external funding, in particular from USAID, are being analysed, but direct compensation from the EU countries should not be expected.

It is noteworthy that Luxembourg has not funded the Global Drug Facility initiative in recent years, despite its importance in ensuring access to TB drugs.
