The weekly Direction de la santé summary on the spread of acute respiratory infections in Luxembourg for the 10th week of 2025 (3-9 March) shows multidirectional dynamics of three key viruses - influenza, respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) and SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus.

The incidence of influenza continues to decline. 499 cases have been registered, which is 44 per cent less than a week earlier (891 cases). This is the fifth week in a row with downward dynamics - everything indicates that the peak of the epidemic is behind us.

Influenza B virus predominated in the typed samples (62%), whereas influenza A accounted for 38%. Among influenza A subtypes, A(H3) (56.1%) and A(H1)pdm9 (43.9%) were detected.

RSV also recorded a decrease with 90 confirmed cases compared to 123 last week (-27%). This continues the general trend of decreasing virus activity.

In contrast to influenza and RSV, COVID-19 showed an increase: 35 new cases during the week, compared to 28 the week before (+25%). Despite this, the infection rate remains relatively low.

Interestingly, meanwhile, the viral load in sewage decreased over the week despite an increase in the number of cases, suggesting possible localised fluctuations.
