Yesterday afternoon, officers of the Water Administration (AGE) recorded traces of hydrocarbons on the surface of the River Sûre in Dikirch. A prompt investigation revealed that the source of the pollution was in Ettelbruck, where a lorry with a hydraulic fuel supply system had leaked on the premises of a local meat processing plant.

The spill caused oil to enter the storm sewer and then reach the Alzette River and later the Sûre through the water system.

To prevent further contamination, the Corps of Corps of Rescue and Firefighters (CGDIS) urgently shut down the pipeline and experts began cleaning and removing the petroleum products in the morning.

The Water Administration reminds that any pollution of water bodies, even unintentional, can lead to criminal liability. This is an important reminder for companies and individuals to strictly control waste and spills of harmful substances.
