The government has decided to protect patients

On Monday, the Luxembourg Government Council approved two decrees issued by the Grand Duke, establishing a new legal framework for cooperation between the Association of Doctors and Dentists of Luxembourg (AMMD) and the National Health Fund (CNS). This decision was a direct consequence of the actions taken by the medical profession’s association, which had previously unilaterally terminated the existing agreement and officially refused to sign a new contract. Attempts to resolve the differences were unsuccessful: last week, an independent mediator appointed to lead the negotiations published a report in which he noted a complete lack of consensus between the parties.
Nevertheless, direct state intervention and the transfer of relations between doctors and the health insurance fund to the control of the Grand Duke’s decrees will help to prevent disruptions to the healthcare system. Thanks to the regulations that have been adopted, the process of reimbursing medical services will not be interrupted once the current agreement finally expires in October. The system for reimbursing patients’ costs will continue to operate as normal, and the current service rates will remain unchanged for the time being.
