In a murder trial, a 72-year-old defendant attempted suicide in the courtroom by slitting his throat with a sharp object. This happened just after the prosecutor's office had requested a life sentence for him. The shocking incident occurred at the end of the three-day trial, when the judge gave the defendant the floor. At that moment, the man suddenly pulled out a sharp object and stabbed himself in the neck area. Police officers immediately intervened and transported him to a nearby hospital by ambulance. At the moment, the defendant's condition remains unknown.
The defendant is on trial for the murder of his 29-year-old son, which took place in November 2022. According to the investigation, in the early morning hours, the man brutally attacked his son as he was on his way to work. Despite prompt medical attention, the young man died the following day from his injuries. The circumstances of the attack remain unclear, but prosecutors believe it was premeditated murder and are pushing for the maximum penalty of life imprisonment.
The incident caused widespread public outcry and was a shocking twist in the trial. The attempted suicide of the defendant may have a significant impact on further proceedings in the case, including judgement and execution. Court hearings have been temporarily suspended and a verdict in the case is expected on 3 April.
