A new scam is spreading in Luxembourg

The Luxembourg police have reported a new wave of telephone fraud. Unknown individuals are calling citizens, introducing themselves as law enforcement officers and attempting to obtain personal data in English under various pretexts. The agency emphasises that such calls are not related to official police activities.
The warning came a week after reports of a similar scheme, in which attackers contacted victims via messaging apps, also posing as police officers. Citizens were advised not to respond to such messages and to block the senders. Now, the scammers have moved on to direct phone calls.
The police have clarified an important detail: all Luxembourg police officers speak Luxembourgish fluently, and the service itself never requests personal data through such calls. In case of doubt, the authorities advise checking the caller's number and dialling the official emergency number 113 yourself.
