An evening of alarms: a fire and two accidents in different parts of Luxembourg

On Thursday evening, 11 April, the Luxembourg Fire and Rescue Service (Corps grand-ducal d'incendie et de secours, CGDIS) recorded three serious incidents. The most unusual was a four-car fire that broke out around 18:00 in the commune of Schuttrange, near the local church. Already on Friday morning it was learnt that the burnt vehicles were training vehicles of the CGDIS itself, located on a property belonging to the local corps unit. The cause of the fire has not yet been determined, police have launched an investigation.
About two hours later, at 19:45, there was an accident between Cruchten and Colmar-Berg involving a motorcyclist who sustained injuries. The nature of the injuries was not specified, but the victim was hospitalised.
The third accident happened at around 21:30 between Boevange-Attert and Bissen - in this case a car collision also resulted in one person being injured.
All of the incidents were independent and disparate in both location and nature, but clearly demonstrate the breadth of the challenges CGDIS faces on a daily basis. The fact that one of the episodes involved the internal infrastructure of the service itself makes the situation particularly sensitive - possible spontaneous combustion or malfunctions in service training vehicles could lead to a review of safety protocols.
While the cause of the fire remains unclear, police have not ruled out any version - from a technical fault to an external influence.
