On Tuesday afternoon, students at the classical lycée in Diekirch were caught unexpectedly at the start of the school day - the Grand Duchy police conducted a drug detection operation in four classrooms of the school's new building. The information was confirmed by the prosecutor of Diekirch, as reported by the publication L'essentiel.
According to the prosecutor's office, the operation was carried out at the request of the school administration and in coordination with the prosecutor's office. As a result of a police check, a "very small dose of cannabis" was found in the possession of one of the students. The parents of the teenager were promptly notified.
The school, commenting on the incident, stressed that the inspection was a preventative measure and part of an awareness raising programme to ensure the safety of students and keep the school a drug-free zone.
Although the case was limited to an isolated offence, the fact of a police raid on an educational institution raises once again the question of the extent of the spread of psychoactive substances among young people and the need for systemic prevention.
