The loss of life in the fire in Crans-Montana was a wake-up call for the Luxembourg authorities. At the first meeting of the city council on 5 January 2026, the tragedy was one of the main topics of discussion, according to the capital's mayor, Lydie Polfer. According to her, the incident in Switzerland was taken "extremely seriously" and served as a reason to pay closer attention to fire safety issues in public catering establishments.

Particular focus was placed on bars with basement premises, which, as the city authorities emphasise, pose an increased risk in the event of a fire or evacuation. As a result, all nine bars in the capital with underground rooms were inspected in detail. The inspections were carried out not only by municipal services, but also with the participation of the Labour and Mines Inspectorate (Inspection du travail et des mines), the CGDIS emergency services and the police.

Following the inspections, one of the bars was forced to close its basement because the emergency exits did not meet the established requirements. The mayor refused to specify which establishment was involved, noting only that the city had never issued a permit for the basement to be used in this way. At the same time, Polfer reminded that after obtaining a licence, the responsibility for strict compliance with all conditions lies with the business owners.

The capital emphasises that inspections of bars and clubs are carried out regularly, especially in cases where establishments request permission for so-called "white nights" with extended opening hours. In such cases, evacuation routes, the location of fire extinguishers and other safety elements are reassessed. There are particularly strict restrictions on basement premises: in most cases, no more than 50 people are allowed there at a time, and no establishment in the capital has permission to accommodate more than 100 visitors underground.
