According to L'Essentiel, an alarm call was reported in Luxembourg's Pfaffenthal neighbourhood at around 19:20 on Sunday evening. An eyewitness reported that a man may have jumped into the Alzette River from the Rue du Pont. Immediately afterwards, police and rescue workers launched a large-scale search operation.

Despite considerable efforts and an extensive search operation, no trace of the man had been found by Monday morning. The question remains: did the man really jump, was he carried away by the strong current or was he able to get out on his own?

The incident comes less than three weeks after another incident: On 7 January, rescuers pulled out a woman who was stranded in the Alzette in the Grund area. The strong current then carried her to the red bridge, where she was rescued. At the time of the last incident, the river was also at a high level, making the search particularly difficult.

It remains unknown whether someone actually ended up in the river or whether it was a mistake. Rescuers continue to monitor the situation.
