On the evening of 7 August at around 20:20, a fire broke out in Uerschterhaff. The staff on duty reacted almost immediately: the fire was quickly localised and extinguished, thus avoiding serious consequences.
No prisoners were injured, but one of the prison guards was injured while fighting the fire. The victim was taken to hospital where he was treated and soon discharged.
The management of the institution, CGDIS rescuers and the police worked at the scene. The management of the Penitentiary System Administration and the Ombudsman, who acts as an external controller of places of deprivation of liberty, were immediately informed of the incident.
The circumstances of the incident and the causes of the fire are being clarified.
