On Wednesday evening, at around 23:00, a traffic incident involving a tram and a bus occurred at the busy Cloche d'Or junction in Luxembourg, resulting in the train derailing. As confirmed by the Luxtram operator, the collision occurred at the intersection of Boulevard Kockelscheuer and Boulevard Raiffeisen.
Despite the material damage, none of the passengers and drivers were injured. The length of the derailed tram was 45 metres, which completely blocked traffic at the intersection.
Emergency services worked promptly at the scene of the accident. A special convoy and a mobile crane were used to lift and return the tram to the tracks. The work continued for several hours, until early morning.
Thanks to the quick response, tram services resumed on schedule as early as Thursday morning.
