Luxembourg authorities handed over to German police on Friday two foreign nationals wanted by German prosecutors for fraud-related offences. The handover took place at the Wasserbilligerbrück border crossing, the Grand Duchy police confirmed.

The first to be extradited was a 32-year-old Moroccan national wanted on a warrant from the Mannheim public prosecutor's office. He was suspected of welfare fraud. In accordance with procedure, he was taken to the prison in Trier, where he will stay for at least five days before further proceedings.

The second extradited person is a 51-year-old French national wanted by the Frankfurt am Main public prosecutor's office for two episodes of property fraud totalling €200,000. According to investigators, he failed to fulfil his obligations to transfer assets under contracts. Like the first suspect, he was also sent to the Trier detention centre.

The Luxembourg authorities have thus reaffirmed their commitment to international cooperation in the fight against cross-border crime, especially in the area of economic offences.
