How the fines work and how to pay them
The sanctions take the form of administrative fines ranging from 25 to 250 euros, with the exception of fines related to traffic violations, which can be much higher, as in the case of repeated drunk driving, which can lead to fines of up to 10,000 euros. The main authorities that can impose these fines are as follows:
- Municipal officers
- The Grand Ducal Police
- Parking inspectors
As for payment, the methods depend on whether it is an administrative sanction or a traffic fine:
- Administrative sanctions
When a municipal agent notes an infraction, the offender must pay a fee of 25 euros within 15 days to avoid the activation of the administrative procedure that can lead to a higher financial penalty. This can be paid in three different ways:
- Deliver the payment to the Recette communale de la Ville de Luxembourg (3, rue du laboratoire, L-1911 Luxembourg).
- Transfer to the account BILLLUL LU58 0021 1018 3500 0000 of the Recette communale de la Ville de Luxembourg.
- Pay using the Payconiq QR code that appears on the report.
- Traffic fines
A standard taxé avertissement must be paid within 45 days of the offense being recorded in one of the following ways:
- On the spot at the time of the offense in cash or by credit card.
- Within 45 days if you are unable to pay at the time of the offense by bank transfer to the account of the Police of the Grand Duchy: IBAN LU51 0019 6055 8045 8000 (BIC: BCEELULL).
- At a police station in cash or by credit card.
To avoid the fine becoming even more expensive, it is important to remember the payment deadlines. Administrative sanctions must be paid within a maximum period of 15 days and standard traffic fines within 45 days.
